Our Story

Our father, John, lived on a farm in the Forbes Road area before his family moved to Grapeville, PA.  Our mother, Mary, grew up in Wegley, Pa. in a house that held the local market for a time.  They sold veggies, meats, candy and ice cream!  They were high school sweethearts but were separated for a bit when she attended college at Clarion and he went south to play for the University of Kentucky on a full football scholarship.  He played for the UK Wildcats from 1962 to 1965 and it was there while playing and maintaining his degree that his appreciation of horses, farms and wide-open spaces truly took hold.

They married in 1966 and lived in Lexington while mom was a teacher and he worked as a student assistant football coach at UK while completing his studies and attaining his master’s degree.  As they raised us both, they had careers in education and were unwavering in the need to help other kids and make a difference in their lives too.

When retirement came around for them, our father’s need to always be busy and keep his mind working lead him to purchasing the house and barn property in 2011.  He was immediately drawn to his roots as a child  - his Plan B he would say.  The land became his passion and he began learning to farm from our incredible neighbors.  He truly loved spending time in the fields that surround the Cavallo Fields acreage.

The farmhouse when purchased was in dire need of FULL renovation.  Being an 1860’s farmhouse, much was in disrepair - mostly in its original form except for an addition that was put on previously.  In time, Dad and Mom decided to move forward with substantial renovation.  Their goal being to move there some day.  He started saving the barn and garages on the property and as well finalized the homes architectural plans and purchased the windows for the house.  He even began harvesting the wood for inside the farmhouse from their first homes land they bought as a newly married couple.  Those are now the large beams you will see in the family room and approx. 95% of the barns floor.  He talked of how nice it would be to share the home and make it something that everyone could enjoy visiting and he planned construction accordingly. He loved all the relationships he built, cherished all of them. Renovations were in progress up until his passing June 12, 2015 at 71.  Through these years since, along with our Mom,  we have all come together to carry on his dreams and continue with his vision – to share our old family motto: Sempre avanti con coraggio!  Always forward with courage! He left us with a strong and beautiful legacy that we are all very proud to be part of.  We really have come full circle by creating a location for opportunities of memorable moments and look forward to sharing with you.
